First Meeting – May 4, 2017

 

Group 1

  • The reality of the foster child
  • 11,375 kids just in Ontario
    • 7000 of them are 14 and under
    • about half male and half female
    • 4 to or 5 to 14?? ASK
    • In Ontario, ages 5 to 9 is 1,855; 10-14 is 3,165
    • Look into help centres and if they can give us brochures to put in?
    • Ideas: 5 to 9 receives:
      • stuffy, colouring book, pencil case with pencil crayons, note book, ball
      • 10 to 14 notebook, journal, pencil case, rubix cube
      • a note in every suitcase, drawings...
      •  

 

Group 2 – Starting a fundraiser

  • 5 Main points of a Fundraiser
    • Goals? Why is it important to you?
      • Because we want to help children
      • Because we have to much, we want to help someone who doesn’t have a bag
      • Putting our faith into action
      • Is our end goal realistic?
      • Our part is to keep the goal in mind
      • The Mission
      • What are we able to do with the funds
      • How do we get them to the
      • THIRD PART: Execution
        • Keep communication between groups is open

Group 3 – Marketing & Advertising

  • Want to use social media
    • What is their objective?
    • Ask the office, how we can accept money that is not cash
    • Ask the office if/how we can accept paypal donations?
    • Jordyn is on Student which runs all the school’s social media
    • Target families and business like à Walmart or the suitcase companies themselves
    • Use signs to advertise our charity
      • Claudio’s poster
      • School announcements
      • Talent show
      • Ping Pong game – tournament
      • Use Mr. Smith
      • Jelly Bean guess
      • Bake sale
      • Order ice-cream truck
      • Pay $2 to see school games (coaches at school have to be ok with that)
      • June 1st is student appreciation day
      • Talk to parent council – find out when the next one is –
      • Can we have the money from the vending machine for a period of time?
      • Raffle: fidget spinner; gift cards;
      • Book drive – bring in your old children’s books – without writing in them or damaged
      • 1 pm ball game in the caf where you could charge $2 to get out of class to watch the game
        • May 24 Blue Jays game at 1:10
          • Popcorn machine
  • Buy out for a school sports team

Group 4 – How are collections and distributions made in a charity?

  • 100% of donations will go to foster kids
  • checks not included
  • Teacher is given the money
  • $4 for pencil case and pencil crayons at Dollarstore if we want to spend money like.
  • They will create Excel budget, they will manage bookkeeping

 

Group 5 – How are kids selected to receive a bag?

  • Criteria – need to establish the criteria our goal is realistic and attainable.
  • Possible goal: $2000 lowest goal. $40 for the bag?
  • Civies = $2000
  • Bake-sale $1= $100
  • Buy out game $1=

 

Group 6 – The Bags

  • Comparing hardcase suitcases to bags. More durable and more space.
  • Duffle bag (Cabellas) which was $34 [Cabella (705) 735-8900] [Samsonite in Newmarket (905) 853-0986 or the Company contact (416)776-1313]
  • Ask Sacred Heart if they have bags
  • Younger kids get suitcase, and younger kids get duffle bags.
