3 (or 4) Chord Song Assignment

3 (or 4) Chord Song Assignment (Inquiry)

Due Monday, February 27 and Tuesday, February 28, 2017.

Over the weekend, research a popular song that uses only 3 or 4 chords of the chords we have already learned in class.

Step 1: Learn the song yourself. The chord transitions and try to lift the strumming pattern as well.

Step 2: Print or write out the lyrics in song form. Ex. Don't write:

Happy Birthday to

you Happy

Birthday to you Happy

birthday dear X-Y....Happy birthday to

you.

Instead, write:

Happy Birthday to you,

Happy Birthday to you,

Happy Birthday dear X-Y....

Happy Birthday to you.

Step 3: Write the chords over the words where the chord changes. Example:

             G                   D

Happy Birthday to you,

             D                   G

Happy Birthday to you,

             G                        C

Happy Birthday dear X-Y....

              G              D  G

Happy Birthday to you.

Notice how the chord changes are written over the very word where you need to change chords in order to make the song sound as it should. Please do the same....(And no, the lyrics do not have to be written in green nor the chord names in red.)

The song does not have to be difficult. In fact, the simpler, the better. For some examples I've included some videos where you can hear a guy play snippets of 30 songs with 3 chords https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_jlPN1a2Xk

and another of him playing 22 popular songs on 4 chords https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGmAzYW6-Yk. You can pick any one of these songs and bring it to the class or do a mashup as he has done. It is up to you. Just make it fun and easy.

Step 4: Have copies for everyone in the class or give it to me at the beginning of class and I will make copies.

Step 5: Teach the song to the class. No pressure...do your best and we will all help each other along the way. Let's make it fun!
